We can no longer afford the costs to deliver in your area.  With fewer and fewer print subscribers, the cost to deliver newspapers has become unprofitable.  It’s not fair to our print subscribers to ask them to cover those costs, so we found a more efficient way to deliver through the Postal Service.  Alot of newspapers are moving in this direction as fewer readers want the printed newspaper.

The newspaper industry is evolving, and these changes allow us to better serve our readers while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our publications. Printing fewer days and transitioning to mail delivery on certain days will help us reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.

For the Maine Trust for Local News to remain sustainable, we need to transform the business and adapt our operation and products in a sustainable way, while embracing the subscribership that is now majority-digital across all our products. Delivering the news in new ways and adjusting how we deliver print is critical to our success.
